Preparing Your Kids For The Real World… Even In a Recession
By Nathan Jurewicz When I ask home school families why they are home schooling their kids, I get answers like… We don’t want their minds corrupted by the worldly influence and secular teachings of our public school system. Our public schools system in our area is horrible. We can’t afford private school and even if we could we’re not so sure that the influence our kids would be exposed to is any better than the public school system. We want the flexibility to be able to give our kids a customer top quality education that will prepare them for the...

Homeschool Graduate Makes Scholarship Road Easier
Applying for college scholarships just got easier. OCEAN PARK, WA – After spending much of the past year hunting down scholarships available to home-schooled students, David Craft realized there was a problem. “There are lots of scholarships available only to those in traditional schools, but none to speak of just for homeschooled students,” he lamented. “When I searched online for ‘homeschool scholarships’ I came up with only a few results, most of which had nothing to do with homeschooling.” When David saw that many scholarships were in the $200 to $500 range, he realized there were businesses run by home...
I’m so impressed with the Steege family’s ‘Runner from Ravenshead’ film!
The kids and I got to meet a neat second-generation homeschooling family this weekend, the Steeges, who have produced a full-length, very professional film called The Runner from Ravenshead.  What a delight!  This fun, family-friendly movie reminded us of Indiana Jones and The Little Rascals, and has a wonderful message in allegory form reminiscent of Pilgrim’s Progress.  See the movie’s trailer here:  http://www.ravensheadmovie.com/trailer.html There’s a great interview with the Joel and Lisa Steege and their children about the movie at Pajama School Blog. My kids loved meeting the stars of Ravenshead — the young and bright homeschooled Steege children — and seeing...

Leichman|Christian Post Reporter Despite what many might believe, a vast majority of home-schooled children say they have plenty of opportunities for socialization with other children and, as adults, come to excel in all measured areas of adult life, according to a new study. The study, released this month by the Canadian Centre for Home Education (CCHE), surveyed young adults in Canada whose parents responded to a 1994 study on home education. Ranging in age from 15 to 34, the study’s participants answered questions on a...

Fun Beyonce’ knock-off Baby Mamas sling video
I had to grab my sling this morning and dance around the living room wearing Toddler S…  Who could blame me after watching this fabulous video made by a creative homeschooler, Leigh in New York?  (Warning:  The video has sling-wearing moms imitating Beyonce’s racy dance and clothing from her “Single Ladies” song.) (Note: The video starts quietly, but quickly gets louder.) S and I have been humming the catchy tune all morning.  =O)...
