Bella Santorum
We’d like to thank everyone who prayed for Senator Rick Santorum’s daughter during her hospitalization this past weekend. She is recovering from pneumonia. Rumors were spread during his absence that he was dropping out of the race, but these rumors were false and we are prayerfully waiting for Florida’s results during the upcoming primary. Zach, Lawson, and Nathan have had such a wonderful learning experience while assisting with the campaigning there (http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-pn-with-santorum-off-the-trail-surrogates-work-to-keep-campaign-alive-20120129,0,3187747.story). Zach wrote an e-mail response to someone’s question about why he supports Santorum. He forwarded it to me, and I thought it was worthy of posting, since others...

Why Urban, Educated Parents Are Turning to DIY Education
They raise chickens. They grow vegetables. They knit. Now a new generation of urban parents is even teaching their own kids.   In the beginning, your kids need you—a lot. They’re attached to your hip, all the time. It might be a month. It might be five years. Then suddenly you are expected to send them off to school for seven hours a day, where they’ll have to cope with life in ways they never had to before. You no longer control what they learn, or how, or with whom. Unless you decide, like an emerging population of parents in...
Thousands of parents illegally home schooling
ABC News Australia By Ian Townsend for Background Briefing Photo: Growing trend: home schooling has boomed over the past decade. (Background Briefing: Ian Townsend) Map: Australia As a new school year begins, more than 50,000 Australian children will be home-schooled and in most cases, their parents are doing it illegally. It is compulsory to send children between the ages of six and 16 to school, or register them for home schooling, but more parents are opting out of the traditional school system and keeping their children at home. However, thousands of parents across the country are not registered and that...
What the Rogers family has been up to
Now that we’re getting back into our homeschooling groove after Baby, opportunities abound! Wow, I’m exhausted.  Was your Christmas season hectic, too? We ended up packing, moving, and beginning to unpack through the holidays, and I invited my lonely dad to come spend a few weeks with us during that same time.  Lots of activity and adjustments, and stress.  Not to mention the baby decided to constantly test the acoustics of our new bare tile floors, and the limits of our hearing! I’m so excited to be able to leave it all behind for a few hours and be refreshed...

Obama’s Attack on Educational Freedom: Why Homeschoolers Should Care
GREAT explanation of this recent issue, from our pastor Charles Baldon:   “So tonight, I am proposing that every state—every state—requires that all students stay in high school until they graduate or turn 18.” —President Barack Obama, January 2012 State of the Union speech.   On its surface this sounds like an eminently reasonable suggestion from the leader of our nation in regards to the importance of education amongst our young people.  Who would disagree that education is critical?  What is the harm of ensuring that our young people receive the best education possible for the longest period possible?  How...
