Two families asked lawmakers Tuesday to allow homeschool students to participate in sports. They said taxes paid by homeschool families already support the programs. “If homeschool families sent students to the local school, the students would be allowed to participate in sports programs, so there is no extra cost to granting homeschool students access,” said Rep. Gus Blackwell, R-Laverne, who requested a legislative study on the issue. Members of the Roger Fischer family of Hooker and the Scott Arthaud family of Keys asked the panel to support passing a “Tim Tebow” law, named for the former University of Florida quarterback.
